A simple play dough recipe using a packet of Kool Aid.
Supplies
1cupall-purpose flour
2Tbspcornstarch
1/4cupsalt
1packetunsweetened Kool Aid drink mix (about 1 1/4 tsp)
2Tbspoilany kind
1/2cupboiling water
Instructions
Measure out 1 cup of flour. Take out 2 Tbsp (doesn't have to be exact). Add in 2 Tbsp of cornstarch.
Add 1 packet of unsweetened Kool Aid drink mix (see notes) and the salt. Mix the dry ingredients together.
Add the boiling water and oil to the flour mixture.
Stir, stir, stir until the dough forms and starts to cool. Then knead it lightly. Be careful as the dough could still be hot.
Cover dough lightly with plastic wrap until completely cool. Store in an airtight container for up to 3 months.
Notes
Use unsweetened Kool-Aid for this recipe. Sugar will make the play dough sticky and prone to mold if stored for a long time. One of the primary ingredients in the Kool-Aid mixes I tested was citric acid. This is a key component, so check the label of your powdered drink mix and make sure that is included. The lemonade and blue raspberry lemonade flavors I tested didn't have a very strong color, so I added more food coloring. Feel free to add food coloring to the boiling water if you'd like a brighter color.
