Special Supplies Used for This Kids’ Art Activity
There’s not a lot to this activity, but the ease and success of it depends on a few special supplies that I’m really glad we have.
Toddler Art Smock
This thing seriously cuts back on my anxiety over messes. I’ve learned to relax when messes happen, but I can relax even more when I can PREVENT messes from occurring in the first place. This washable art smock is a must for any kid’s art activity.
Full-Size Sheet Pan
Why use a tiny baking sheet when you can use a giant full-sized rimmed baking sheet? Go big or go home, am I right? The larger size is perfect for this activity, as I can fit two sheets of paper comfortably in it. We also use it for sensory play, as a water play drip catcher, and so much more.
Painter’s Tape
Painter’s tape comes in handy A LOT at our house. Check out these posts where we’ve used painter’s tape in an indoor activity:
Additional tip: Keep babies entertained by putting a piece of tape on the floor in front of them. Works like a charm for my 8-month-old.

How to Set Up the Truck Tracks Art Activity
We borrowed our trucks from a family friend. You may recognize them from this post on community helpers. We just had to continue the theme doing a slightly messier, more creative activity!
Use the painter’s tape to tape a sheet of construction paper to the commercial-sized rimmed baking sheet.
Put globs of paint along the sides. Wheel the trucks through the paint to make tire tracks!
This activity was so easy to set up and so much fun for my girl. She loved exploring the texture of the paint and the excitement of using a toy truck in a new way.
I think she also really enjoyed getting the trucks all messy!
mAking Clean Up Time a Fun Activity
It be rude to give the trucks back to our friends without washing them first! We had a quick car wash with lots of bubbles, water, and a sponge when the art activity was over.
As I’ve said in this post, water is the ultimate fun, free indoor activity! This is proven to be true as even cleaning up can be fun with a little water play 😉
Ella already had her smock on, so she couldn’t get too wet. The car wash continued long after all the cars and trucks were clean…
