Who doesn’t like playing with shaving cream? Have you tried shaving cream out with your toddler yet?
If you haven’t, you’re in for a (messy-ish) treat! Playing with shaving cream is such a unique sensory experience.
I love the feeling of shaving cream, so I usually end up joining in on shaving cream activities with my toddler. And I always get the moisturizing kind for that extra-smooth feeling.
Our very first time playing with shaving cream, my toddler was so reluctant to touch it. When she finally did, she spread it all over the baking sheet, washed her hands, then got back into the shaving cream all over again.
For our next shaving cream activity, I decided to help her keep her hands clean(-ish) and gave her a tool to manipulate the shaving cream with.
We added food coloring to make this cool marbled effect with the shaving cream.
Ready to see how we did it?
How to Set Up Marbled Shaving Cream Pies
To make marbled shaving cream pies, you’ll need:
- shaving cream,
- food coloring,
- paper plates,
- popsicle sticks (or spoons)
Spray a big dollop of shaving cream onto a paper plate. Add a few drops of food coloring (or liquid watercolor if you have it) to the shaving cream.
Drag a popsicle stick through the food coloring to create a marbled effect.
We matched the food coloring to the colored popsicle sticks. You don’t have to do this, but it does look nice.
Be careful of getting the food coloring directly on your hands or clothes because it will definitely stain.
Once it’s totally mixed into the shaving cream, it won’t stain. Unless you’ve put a TON of food coloring in. Then it most definitely WILL stain.
Just warning you.
I let Elena do the marbling and mixing.
She literally just stirred the shaving cream pies the entire time and kept her hands nice and clean.
Eventually, the shaving cream pies were less marbled and just colored.
She also tried mixing the two colors together. And she tried spreading the shaving cream on the table.
Your Turn to Make Marbled Shaving Cream Pies
I hope you’ll do this super simple activity with your toddler.
Try to resist the urge to shove the shaving cream pies in their faces.
