These semi-transparent pumpkin suncatchers look great hung on a window or glass door, and best of all, toddlers and preschoolers will have a blast making them!
We made our first suncatchers with contact paper about a year ago.
It was so easy and turned out so cute.
I like that you can customize it for whatever holiday happens to be coming up, whether that’s by color scheme or simply writing “Happy ______”.
This time, we’re making fall/Halloween-themed ones!
Here’s how we did it.

You’ll need a few supplies to make this fall craft.
- Con-Tact paper
- orange tissue paper
- black and green construction paper
- scissors
- pen or marker
- masking tape
Con-Tact paper is the key ingredient in this activity.
It is one of my favorite toddler craft and activity supplies. You can find it in the shelf liner section at most big box stores, or have it delivered to your door by ordering online.
Step One: Prep for the Pumpkin Craft
First, you will transform your supplies into various shapes. If your child is old enough to use scissors safely, he or she can help with this step!
Cut tissue paper into small squares. I did this quickly by cutting a sheet of paper into strips, then holding all the strips together, snipping it into squares.
Cut black construction paper into small triangles. These will be used for the Jack-o-lantern face.
Cut green construction paper into stem-like shapes.
Finally, cut pieces of Con-Tact paper into large squares. I made mine about 8-10 inches.
You’ll need two pieces of Con-Tact paper for every pumpkin you plan to make.
Step Two: Decorate
Peel the backing off the Con-Tact paper and tape it to a table.
Draw a pumpkin shape directly on the Con-Tact paper.
Let your child cover the shape with the orange tissue paper squares.
Use the black triangles to make a jack-o-lantern face…. or sprinkle them liberally all over the pumpkin without a care in the world…
Top the pumpkin off with a green paper stem.
Step Three: Laminate and Cut
Once your child is finished decorating, peel the backing off a second piece of Con-Tact paper.
Carefully cover the decorated pumpkin with the sticky paper. Press out any air pockets using your hands.
Lastly, cut out the pumpkin shape and hang the pumpkin suncatcher in the window!
This would be such a great craft to do with little ones at a fall or Halloween party.
