This easy Christmas sensory bin was so fun to put together and even more fun watching the kids play with it.
Sensory bins are one of our go-to activities around here. I keep a big tub of all our fillers and supplies stashed in the closet, and pull it out as needed.
Every now and then I throw in something extra-special to make it a themed bin.
Kind of like this one!
How to Set Up This Sensory Bin
I’ve written up a free guide to sensory bins. This guide will show you how to get started and what materials you’ll really need/use to make tons of customizable sensory bins.
I already had red dyed rice made, so this bin was super easy to put together. Instructions to dye rice is at the bottom of the post, but if you don’t have time to dye rice, it’s not a problem. Substitute white rice, dried lentils, or other small dried beans.
Don’t let not having every supply we used keep you from trying this activity!
Once I had my rice in the sensory bin, I added lots of shatter-proof ball ornaments. You can take the tops off these ornaments so that kids can fill them with rice.

I wish I’d had time to get more of these clear plastic ornaments, but alas, I only had one.
I also added a few spoons and smaller ornaments for the kids to play with.
