As much as we love doing activities, getting outside, and reading books, playing with toys is an important part of our day, too!
Today, I’m sharing my kids’ current favorite toys to play with.
These are the toys that keep them busy for 15+ minutes at a time and that they are happy to play with over and over.
Favorite Toys for Toddlers and Preschoolers
My kids are aged 2 and 4.5 years old. They have both enjoyed playing with all of the toys on this list, although there are one or two that are more appropriate for the preschool age.
Baby Toy Bathtub
Time to give baby a bath! My 2-year-old loves bathing her baby dolls with a sponge in this toy bathtub. Add a few cups of water to it to make the spouts spray water. I couldn’t find our exact one online, but the one linked below is by the same manufacturer.Â
Alternatively, this tabletop kitchen sink might be more appealing for toddlers who aren’t into playing with baby dolls.
Baby Dolls & Accessories
My oldest never got into baby dolls, but my youngest can’t seem to go anywhere in the house without one. She loves to swaddle, feed, bathe, and take her babies to the potty. We also have a baby hairbrush, bottle, blanket, crib/bed, and bathtub (see above).
One thing I am glad we did NOT purchase is clothes. The babies always end up naked. *shrug*

Magnetic tiles
Both of my girls enjoy playing with magnetic tiles. Two-year-olds will probably start off simply stacking and matching shapes. Older children will be able to build more complex, 3-D structures and will probably use up all the tiles in one go! The set I’ve linked here is a great starter set for one child. We have double the amount of these tiles for our two kids.
 ICE CREAM Cart
A family friend gifted this ice cream cart to us several months ago, and both my girls absolutely love this toy! My oldest played with this non-stop the first few weeks we got it, and now my youngest is currently obsessed. Scooping ice cream is just tons of fun.
Play Kitchen and Food
I don’t think my kids will ever tire of playing in their kitchen. I’ve been served countless meals and watched them cook up dozens of different recipes. It’s such a great set for imaginative play. The kitchen linked below is different from ours, but very cute, and the wooden food set is the exact same one we have.
Pattern blocks
This is a recent favorite of my 4.5-year-old. The set includes pattern cards showing kids how to combine the blocks to make different pictures. Great learning activity for little preschool brains and fun for parents to join in on occasion, as well!
Bouncy ANimal Hoppers
Sometimes, a kid’s gotta bounce. My parents bought each kid one of these animal hoppers. It is just the right size for toddlers and preschoolers, although my 4-year-old may outgrow it in a year if she has a big enough growth spurt. My 2-year-old enjoys bouncing and sitting with her bunny on this animal hopper. We have the exact one linked below in both blue and pink.
Fat Brain Toys SPinAgain
My 2-year-old loves this toy. Watching the gears spin is endlessly fascinating. It’s also fun to put a gear on a string and take turns sliding it back and forth to one another.
WIKKI Stix
Wikki stix are wax-covered pieces of yarn that you can bend and shape and stick on various surfaces. My 4.5-year-old makes pictures on her bedroom wall with these, and my 2-year-old lets me make bracelets for her. It’s a fun little fine motor toy that you can take and play with just about anywhere.
Karaoke Machine
The grandparents bought this for Lia’s 2nd birthday, and we’ve gotten so many hours of play out of it. Both kids love to sing, and although we only have one mic, there is another port for a second one. I’m kind of old school, so my favorite feature is that it can play CDs. 🙂 The kids can play the CDs by themselves. Killer music leads to dance parties and singing, which leads to happy, worn-out children. Who’s ready for bed?
So that’s our top ten list of toys for toddlers and preschoolers. Like I mentioned earlier, we own and love each of these toys!
I hope this list gives you some ideas for new toys to try this year!
