One of the ways we work on recognizing letter names is by playing games. Today’s alphabet game uses the following formula:
Cars + dot stickers + letters = easy alphabet matching game
Grab a few toy cars and a pack of dot stickers, and let’s get ready to play and learn.
I get that you need to keep your kids busy because you feel stressed about all the stuff you need to get done today. That’s why my mission is to…
1. Find fun, quality kids’ activities and show you step by step how to do them.
2. Save you time and energy by using supplies from around the house or show you where to easily get them.
3. Inspire you to be creative and play with your kids in new and exciting ways.
Set up an Alphabet Matching Game with Cars
For this alphabet matching game, I used
- toy cars
- dot stickers
- marker
- sheets of paper
- tape
Since we had all these special vehicles, I picked letters that went with the vehicle names.
A for ambulance, B for bus, D for dump truck, F for fire truck, and so on.
I wrote each letter on a dot sticker and put them on each car and truck. Then I lined them up.
Next, I wrote the same letters on separate sheets of paper and hung them on the wall. Probably could’ve taped them a little closer to the ground…
Then, my three-year-old read the dot stickers and matched the cars with the letter on the wall.
Are these the same letter? Nope. Try again!
Alphabet Matching Games Are a Great Activity
Learning to recognize letters in print is a key pre-reading skill. I’ve never had the patience to sit and do a worksheet with my daughter. I’d much, much rather set up a cute game for her and watch her have fun with it.
With the help of dot stickers, you can make your own alphabet matching game with pretty much anything. We use toys my daughter is interested in to make matching more fun.
She loved driving the cars into their parking spots, and she got to practice reading letters, too.
Your turn to set up an Alphabet Matching game
Cars are fun to use for this game. You could even tape out parking spots or make little garages out of cardstock or cardboard rather than just hanging the letters on the wall.
What’s even easier, is writing the letters randomly spaced out on a single sheet of paper and sticking the matching letter dot sticker on top, much like our dot sticker art activity.
Here’s the activity recipe. Hope you enjoy, and if you get a chance, let me know how it went!
