Our oldest, Ella, loves Doc McStuffins. We did a Doc-themed birthday tea party for her a few months ago and she LOVED it.
I want to show you how I made her Doc accessories and party favors, which she continues to play with months after. I made play stethoscopes, Big Books of Boo Boos, felt bandages, and a Doc McStuffins headband!

What I like about Doc is that she is so kind and caring to her little friends. I hope that Ella will be just as kind and caring to everyone, her toys included!
So I made a bunch of Doc play accessories for the toy hospital activity we set up for the party. It took me about an hour to make 6 stethoscopes. Mostly because I didn’t know what I was doing for the first one. The next 5 were a breeze to make.
The Big Book of Boo Boos took only half an hour to make 6. The felt bandages took slightly longer because of all the cutting and drawing. And I made the headband in under 5 minutes 🙂
How to Make a DIY Play Stethoscope
I found everything I needed at the craft store for super-cheap: a pack of different color fabric-wrapped headband, a multicolor pack of foam sheets, 5/8” wide purple ribbon. I also grabbed scissors, a glue stick, hot glue gun, and a spice jar lid (not pictured).
First I picked out 3 purple foam sheets.
Then I used my glue stick to glue the foam sheets together. That way it would be thick enough to make the round end part of the stethoscope.
I used a spice jar lid to trace circles on my glued foam sheets. You can just press the lid right into the foam, no need to get a pencil out.
I cut out a little heart using a pink foam sheet.
I cut a piece of purple ribbon about 24” long. Taking one, I tied the center in a hitch knot over the center of the headband and hot glued the tails together.
Then I glued the ends to the middle of one foam square and put the other foam square on top of that. You can use hot glue to make it more secure.
Then I cut out the circle. (Without cutting through the ribbon!)
I went a little fancy with the second one and did a double twist.
If you like the twisted look, you’ll have to center the headband on the ribbon and tie it on with a hitch knot. Then twist one ribbon tail in clockwise turns and hold it off to the side, making sure it doesn’t twist. Twist the other ribbon in the same direction.
Hold both ends of the ribbons together and let it twist freely into a nice double twist.
I hot glued the little hearts onto the center of my cut-out circles, and DONE!
The Big Book of Boo-Boos
The notebooks were an easy, easy DIY.
Just get a pack of little notebooks. Glue purple construction paper onto the front and back. Then glue a pink foam heart on the cover. Done.
(Heart)Felt Band-Aids
For the felt bandages, draw Band-Aid shapes on your flesh-colored felt. Cut out the Band-Aids. Draw the heart and little details with a pink marker. So easy.
These were great (and cheap!) party favors for our little guests. If you’ve got a mini Doc, she is sure to love them too!
This would be great for a doctor-themed party or just for doctor or nurse imaginative play/dress up! See my post on hospital pretend play HERE.
Doc McStuffins’ Headband
I found a wider purple headband for kids and flower-shaped buttons. I had some sequins at home, so I hot glued one onto the center of the flower and then hot glued the flower onto the side of the headband. So cute!
You could hot glue a smaller button onto the center of the flower if you prefer.
