There are so many fun games you can play indoors with tape.
The most recent game we’ve played is shapes hopscotch.
Any game that gets my kids active or helps them learn is a winner, and this game pulls double duty by helping kids learn shapes while they jump around!

I bought this set of colored masking tape about a year ago, and we are just now starting to run out of a few of the colors.
It’s one of my favorite activity supply purchases, so if you don’t have a few rolls of colored masking tape, get some!
Set up is really easy.
I used red tape to make squares in a zig-zaggy path on our wood floor.
Then, I filled in around the squares with triangle shapes using purple tape to make a path of sorts.
TIP: Keep kids entertained while you set up this activity with a few pieces of tape. They can stick it to their shirts, or on the floor, and then peel it off again over and over.
How to Play Tape Shapes Hopscotch
To play the game, each player selects a shape. Then, they hop from one end to the other stepping only on their shape.
The girls both chose triangle for their first hop-through.
Lia (age 2) shouted “hop” every time she jumped. She can’t quite get both feet off the floor when she jumps, so I wonder if she says “hop” to let us know she’s trying to hop when it looks like she’s just taking a big step!
We did squares next, and then triangles again.
I challenged Elena (age 4) to hop through the path in a pattern, alternating shapes. She tried it out, saying the shape name as she landed on it.
Lia attempted this version as well. I helped her out by reminding her which shape to hop onto next.
Lastly, Elena hopped through with each foot on a different shape.
She came up with that game on her own, and I was proud of her for attempting something that seems more complex.
Your Turn to Play Shape Hopscotch
Do you think you’ll try this at home with your little ones?
If you can, this is an easy game to play outside too. Just swap the tape for chalk, and you’re all set!
