Making Sticky Tape Art is a great activity for building fine motor skills and can be set up in minutes so kids can spend more time playing and learning!
Both Elena and Lia had a great time peeling and sticking tape to make their very own artwork.
I loved how Elena (age 4) talked Lia (22 months) through it. We also got a little color learning in by talking about the brightly colored tape.

How to Set Up Sticky Tape Art
I ripped strips of this brightly colored masking tape and taped them in an overlapping design on our craft table.

Lia and Elena carefully peeled the tape off.
This part can be a little tricky depending on how much you overlap and layer the tape because if you don’t peel off the top-most tape strip first, the others will come off as well.
Next, the girls stuck their tape strips onto a sheet of construction paper.
Pretty simple, right?
Here’s what Lia ended up with.
Taping Shapes
Elena made her tape art a little differently.
She decided to make shapes instead of random lines.
I allowed her to cut her own strips of tape to make a square with.
She used different colors and different sized pieces of tape to form her squares.
She worked on this quietly while I got her sister ready for a nap.
I could tell she was proud of her work when she burst into Lia’s room with a huge grin to show me her tape square.
Fine Motor Work
Fine motor skills are tricky for little ones! Their hands are still developing, so it can be tough for them to do something as simple as peeling tape off a table.
However, it’s great exercise for small motor muscles which are essential for future skills like tying shoelaces and writing.
Working with tape to peel, cut, rip, and stick it on paper is a great way to build fine motor skills in toddlers in a fun way.
Kids will use their small motor muscles in their hands and fingers throughout this whole activity.
