I love toddler activities that are really easy to set up and that use stuff I already have at home. One supply that gets used over and over again is our Con-Tact paper.
If you’ve never heard of Con-Tact paper before, it’s a semi-transparent shelf liner. Of course, I’ve never used it as a shelf liner… But I have used it in tons of toddler activities like these and this wipe-clean Christmas sticker match, and I’ve used it to cover paperback schoolbooks.
My kids get a kick out of sticking stuff to Con-Tact paper. Sometimes I just leave a sheet up on the window for them to randomly find and stick things to.
But usually, we have a purpose to our madness. And today’s purpose is to decorate a sticky Christmas Tree.

How to Set Up a Sticky Christmas Tree Activity
First you’ll need Con-Tact paper. This is the one I use.
Cut off a big piece and tape it to a window, to the wall, or to the table or floor.
Next, draw a Christmas tree with permanent marker, like so.
Cut pieces of green and yellow yarn and pile them on a tray with some colorful pom poms.
Then, you’re ready to go.
Decorating the Sticky Christmas Tree
At first we went a little wild with the yarn. But once we discovered the lines, the yarn made its way back onto the tree.
A bit of yellow yarn for the star…
She insisted on tiny pieces of yarn for this one. I don’t think it was a good idea as the little fibers spread all over the sticky paper and made it a lot less sticky. The little pieces of yarn are far less repositionable.
But, we tried it once, and now we know that we don’t like using tiny pieces of yarn on sticky paper!
The pom poms were last to go on. I really like using colorful pom poms, but you could do a single color or even use cotton balls if that’s all you have available.
Buttons would be another good option. You don’t have to do it exactly like us. Substitutions are welcome and encouraged if it makes your life easier!
Little sis got to get in on the action once she woke up from her nap, too.
Your Turn to Decorate a Sticky Christmas Tree
Hope you try this simple and fun sticky Christmas tree activity! Con-Tact paper is one of our most-used toddler activity supplies. It’s inexpensive, so I think it’s absolutely worth purchasing. Order it on Amazon or you can find it at most stores in the shelf liner section.
